First, my objective is to be on the first page of the search engines results when somebody types in a certain keyword phrase that is relevant to the content on my website.

I choose my keywords phrases carefully to bring more web traffic to my website. I Stay away from very general keywords. Those are not really targeted and they have a ton of competition. I always pick a keyword phrase that has low competition.

For example; I have a web site on poker and I want to sell some videos. If I pick “poker videos” I am probably going to have a hard time ranking for that search term on the first page because there must be a ton of web site with that keyword phrase. But “texas holdem poker tips video” is much more targeted and has probably less competition. If It has less than 10k competing results, It is going to make my job much easier to bring more traffic to my website.

I can bring more traffic to my website by getting a list of twenty of those keyword phrases and write an article of 350 to 600 for each. By submitting those articles to Ezines, forums, social networking sites, blogs, etc. My website will get backlinks from all those sites and will climb the search engines ranking.
